Chowli Curry
Black-Eyed Bean Curry

   5 Litre pressure cooker

 
Ingredients
5 g ginger
6 flakes garlic
5 tbsp vegetable oil
2 medium (¼ kg) onions (grated)
2 medium (¼ kg) tomatoes (chopped)
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp red chilli powder
5 tsp salt
2 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp cumin powder
2 ½ cups black-eyed beans (soaked overnight or in hot water for 2 hours and drained)
4 ½ cups water
½ tsp garam masala powder

Recipe
1. Grind ginger and garlic into a paste.
2. Heat oil in a cooker for about 2 minutes. Add onions and fry till golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste. Stir for a few seconds. Add all other ingredients except beans, water and garam masala powder. Cook till tomatoes are pulpy and oil shows separately (approximately 5 minutes), stirring occasionally. Add beans. Stir fry for about 3 minutes. Add water. Stir.
3. Close cooker. Bring to full pressure on high heat. Reduce heat and cook for 8 minutes.
4. Remove cooker from heat. Allow to cool naturally.
5. Open cooker. Add garam masala powder. Stir. Serve hot.
